If you thought American politics were hot, you are in for a treat. It’s about to get even hotter! As the days close in on the general election in November, the American political race continues to heat up to boiling. With Trump’s tax returns now in the public domain, he needs to spark controversy among his political opponents to keep America busy – and recently, Trump tasked the Justice Department to investigate one of his biggest political opponents, Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota.

Just after midnight on Monday, Trump lashed out at Omar on Twitter, accusing her of “ballot harvesting.” According to the president, “this is totally illegal.” With that in mind, he demanded his Justice Department to launch an investigation into Omar, who has already been subjected to numerous investigations due to her risqué love life (which involved an affair and several divorces).

Trump tweeted, “Hope that the U.S. Attorney in Minnesota has this, and other of her many misdeeds, under serious review??? If not, why not??? We will win Minnesota because of her, and law enforcement. Saved Minneapolis & Iron O Range!”

Trump’s reaction came after James O’Keefe from the private conservative watchdog organization, Project Veritas, made the seemingly unsubstantiated claim that Omar’s supporters illegally harvested ballots in favor of the candidate.

O’Keefe’s statement hinges on the argument that Minneapolis resident, Liban Mohamed, went around collecting ballots. The number totaled about 300 ballots, primarily from Somali refugees who have since earned their way into American citizenship – just like Ilhan Omar, herself. However, O’Keefe’s argument indicates that Mohamed collected the ballots to help his brother, City Councilman Jamal Osman.

According to people close to the scenario, O’Keefe generated “fake news.”

During an election rally in Pennsylvania last week, Trump attacked Omar in front of his conservative base.

“She’s telling us how to run our country. How did you do where you came from?’ Trump said of the Somali-born Democrat, who’s a U.S. citizen. How was your country doing?”

When Omar heard the things Trump said about her, she fired back.

“Firstly, this is my country, and I am a member of the House that impeached you,” the Minnesota lawmaker tweeted to her millions of followers. “Secondly, I fled civil war when I was 8. An 8-year-old doesn’t run a country even though you run our country like one.”

O’Keefe also preemptively accused the Democrats of voter fraud.

Critics of Trump believe he is trying to spread doubt about the election process to discourage Democrats from going to the polls on November 3, 2020. This is one of the main reasons, they say, that Trump pushes so hard against mail-in voting. Absentee ballots are also one way Russia and other foreign governments would not be able to interfere with an American election.

If the person connected to Omar really did collect ballots, he likely would not face legal consequences. The practice is legal in most states, so long as a proper protocol is followed.

What do you think about the American political scene right now going into the election?
