If you’re looking for a way to jumpstart the Christmas spirit, look no further than this. A new John Lewis Christmas commercial has been published and promises to get your tear ducts working overtime. Although the clip is only about five minutes long, it features all the pieces of the puzzle to get your eyes watering and your heart-melting in time for the upcoming Christmas holiday season that everyone is so eager to join.

The video features a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Bruno and his elderly male owner. The man and his pooch do everything together and don’t like spending a minute apart. The pair snuggle on the couch and even hit up the bars together – but then tragedy turns their world upside down.

Sam hopes to put the proceeds obtained from the sale of his song toward charities supporting the elderly this season. Because COVID-19 has forced so many elderly people to be separated from their families during the holiday season, Sam hoped his song would bring joy to these people.

Sam shared the video on YouTube to a great reception. Although the content has been live on the platform for only a few days – it was uploaded on November 1, 2020 – it has received more than 2.3 million views. Here’s what Sam wrote about the video and how it has the power to tug at your heartstrings.

“Warning, this is a sad song and video that will make you cry. This song/advert is dedicated to everyone who has faced hardships in 2020. With this song, we hope to raise money for multiple charities that support the elderly. We were inspired by our own hometown Sir Captain Tom Moore’s charitable efforts, to raise money for a brilliant cause. With each £0.79p purchase, it will help give support & companionship to the elderly who need it most in 2020. This Christmas Advert Concept for John Lewis was filmed to show the bond between humans and dogs. Many elderly people rely on their animal family for their wellbeing. This is why with every purchase of our song “Don’t Let Me Go”, 100% of the money will be donated to charity.”

The response has been overwhelming.

One posted: “I’m literally in tears. This makes you realize how lucky we are to have such beautiful bonds with animals.”

Another fan wrote: “Awww my god, this has me in tears right now. The love between him and his beautiful dog.”

A third viewer did not know if it was her hormones or the short film that made her cry: “Oh my God. Not sure if pregnancy hormones or just the dog, but I cried so much watching this and refused to watch it again.”

The music video takes a turn when the man loses Bruno. The heartbroken owner posts flyers around town to get help looking for his beloved pet. However, he soon discovers the dog died in a snowbank. The man suffers a heart attack from a broken heart and dies.

The video ends with the pair being reunited in the afterlife.
