One Australian traveler was met with quite a shock when they were stopped by Border Agents while trying to take an international flight. The traveler was Tomi Grainger, and he stopped at the border security at the Sydney International Airport in Australia, looking forward to a trip to Tokyo, Japan. However, Grainger nearly missed his flight because airport security officials did not like his passport photo since the electronic machine used to check the passport failed to recognize the traveler’s face in the official document.

In a social media video about the ordeal, the 29-year-old traveler confessed that he no longer looked like his passport photo. The photo was taken seven years ago when Grainger was a 22-year-old man. Since then, he has gone under the knife for substantial plastic surgery on his face making him look like an entirely different person. Since his photo looked far different from how he looked today after his plastic surgery face lift, Grainger was held up by airport security and almost missed his international flight from Australia to Japan.

In his TikTok video about the ordeal, the 29-year-old traveler confessed that this was the first time he had trouble with his passport photo despite being a well-seasoned traveler. The video has since gone viral with more than one hundred thousand views. The video has also sparked a debate about people who look different from their portraits in official documents due to plastic surgery, facelifts, and other cosmetic procedures done on the face.

“You would not believe what just happened to me at Sydney Airport, and I’m low-key freaking out. My heart is still pounding,” the Australian traveler said as they walked through the airport following their heart-stopping ordeal with border security. “You go through airport security, and you’ve got to get out your digital passport through or whatever so they can identify you, and the machine’s like, this is not the person. Like it’s me!”

After realizing that he looked very different from his passport photo, Grainger was sent to a separate line for officials to further examine his passport.

“I thought I might miss my flight,” they said. “She’s looking at my face, and she’s like frowning a lot, keeps doing it, spends a few minutes doing it. I’m awkwardly standing there, needing to pee.”

At this point, the border agent leaves Grainger alone to speak to their boss about the passport issue.

“The two of them are standing there talking about me, looking at this photo, shaking their heads frowning, and I’m like s**t, they’re not going to let me through,” Grainger said. “And that’s when it dawns on me, I realize, ‘Oh, I don’t look like the person in my passport photo anymore because I’ve had so much plastic surgery.’”

Grainger then told the passport officials that he had undergone a facelift and no longer looked like the person in his passport photo.

People online agreed with border security that Grainger looked totally different from the man in his passport photo. Do you think he should have updated his passport after plastic surgery?
