While going on an anti-Trump rant, CNN anchor Don Lemon set his sights on first lady Melania Trump. Although new allegations against her character have been made from her former best friend, Lemon might have overstepped a boundary when he compared Trump’s wife to Michelle Obama. During the on-air monologue, Lemon spoke about Trump’s obsessions with his predecessor, the forty-four president, Barack Obama.
During the speech, Lemon riled up Trump’s base by speaking about Obama and Trump’s intense focus on the former president. Even before Trump threw his hat in the ring as a politician, he had it out for Obama when he created the birther conspiracy, which has since been applied to vice-presidential hopeful, Kamala Harris.
Lemon’s talk about Trump’s focus on Obama has since gone viral. In the talk, he said:
“What is it about President Obama that really gets under your skin? Is it because he’s smarter than you? Better educated? Made it on his own — didn’t need daddy’s help?”
Lemon even went so far as to compare Melania to Michelle and state his preference for whose wife he finds more attractive – and it isn’t the one who once posed nude for the camera.
Lemon continued: “Wife is more accomplished? Better looking? I don’t know, what is it, what is it about him? That he’s a black man that’s accomplished, became president? That he punked you on the whole birth certificate thing? What is it about him? Just wondering.”
Obviously, Lemon feels that Obama had a lot of traits that could make Trump jealous. However, critics of CNN and Don Lemon focused on him bringing Melania and Michelle into the discussion. These critics, including some from BlazeTV, felt that speaking about the first ladies was bad form for a CNN presenter.
BlazeTV’s Allie Beth Stuckey wrote: “Don Lemon here says maybe Trump hates Obama because Michelle is more accomplished than Melania. I can’t even imagine the outcry if the same had been said about Laura Bush. Cries of racism galore! I guess it’s cool to hate on immigrants when they’re named Trump.”
Legal analyst Stephanie Haney wrote: “Don Lemon, I like you, but you didn’t need to come for Melania. Not necessary.”
Lemon decided to speak about Trump’s obsession with Obama after Trump retweeted a conspiracy theory trying to degrade evidence of Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia by blaming Obama.
Before Lemon spoke out, President Trump tweeted: “I must admit that Lyin’ Brian Williams is, while dumber than hell, quite a bit smarter than Fake News [CNN] ‘anchorman’ Don Lemon, the ‘dumbest man on television.’ Then you have Psycho Joe’ What Ever Happened To Your Girlfriend?’ Scarborough, another of the low I.Q. individuals!”
Trump assigns names to his enemies and opponents in an attempt to demean them and make them look weak. He has been referring to Don Lemon as “the dumbest man on television” for a while now. Despite Trump’s claims that Don Lemon’s ratings are poor, ratings of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon have increased more than seventy percent year over year.
